Lord have been retained by the West Midlands Growth Company to lead their recruitment drive for a Head of Strategic Marketing Projects, a full-time and permanent role.


Our Client

The West Midlands Growth Company is the organisation which is responsible for marketing and promoting the West Midlands nationally and globally.

Formed in April 2017 from Marketing Birmingham, the West Midlands Growth Company can trace its history back to 1982. It now employs about 65 marketing, communications and business development professionals at their offices at in the centre of Birmingham and across the region.

Recent years have seen many successes: record foreign investment in the region, the largest growth in international visitors of any UK city outside London, the birth of exciting new start-ups, and the relocation of major firms such as HSBC from the capital to Birmingham.

The West Midlands Growth Company will work with Local Enterprise Partnerships, local authorities, Growth Hubs, universities, and the private sector to build on these successes, and continue to raise the profile of the West Midlands region in national and global markets, making it more distinctive and attractive to investors to create new jobs through the expansion of existing businesses and the attraction of new investment to the region.


The Role

This is a newly-created role in a growing team, and is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious marketing professional to show what they are capable of under the spotlight on a global stage.

Working as a key member of the Marketing and Communications senior team, you will lead the Strategic Projects division and enable delivery of the West Midlands Growth Company's business plan.

You will own a portfolio of contracts and corporate projects, across multiple sectors, employing b2b and b2c strategies and tactics to support economic development and drive forward the image and reputation of the region and wider Midlands area.

You will have specific responsibility for:

  • The delivery of specific government-funded or investment-related campaigns and strategic projects
  • Leading WMGC's relocation services so that new businesses are supported in moving to the region
  • Providing an events management service across the company so that all events are professionally managed and delivered to achieve their objectives
  • Managing WMGC's convention bureau offer so that the region continues to attract business and conference visitors.


Candidates

You will be an ambitious and innovative marketing professional, experienced in working across the public and private / not-for-profit sectors.

You are looking for a stimulating and high-profile role, in a fast-paced environment, with a great team, that will fully utilise your exceptional marketing skills and experience, whilst offering you the opportunity to develop your career.

Highly developed communication, project management and leadership skills are an absolute requirement for success.

An interest in the regional and national political environments, key public policy areas, and experience of interacting with central government and senior political leaders will be useful.
