Main Purpose of Role:

To be responsible for the management of the project under the direction of the Advanced Manufacturing Steering Group. Main contact for all issues relating to the delivery of the Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Advanced Manufacturing (CESAM) project, ensuring compliance with ERDF funding and their contractual requirements; negotiating and agreeing contracts with collaborative partners and suppliers; facilitating innovation support to SMEs through both the Underpinning Technology Research and Knowledge Transfer teams and others, maximizing the benefits to the participating SMEs in the region; working closely with all relevant stakeholders and regional partners; managing and reporting on all the funding elements of CESAM and promoting CESAM to the Advanced Manufacturing Sector

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

To prepare the delivery and implementation plans for CESAM and seek agreement for such plans from the AMSG. Such plans to specify key outputs and the impacts of those outputs on the delivery of CESAM project targets
To manage the project team enabling excellence in performance and
development.

To manage CESAM in accordance with the plans approved by the AMSG

To liaise with SMEs, from enquiry through to service delivery, to engender
excellent customer relationships, ongoing client care, support and servicing of their needs and create a collaborative and inclusive culture of engagement within the CESAM project To ensure that high standards of presentation and maintenance are achieved throughout the life of the CESAM project specifically with legal agreements, contractual compliance and any regulatory requirements.

To line manage the project administrative and support staff including regular
reviews, arranging training as required, monitor and ensure high standards of work output, recruitment of staff as needed, induction support for new staff and develop a collaborative and inclusive environment.

To be responsible for managing and reporting on all the funding elements of the CESAM project, minimising financial risk to the university.

To take responsibility for production of data, information and reports to the
university, funding bodies and other partners.

To prepare, review and monitor budgets with the finance team

To be accountable for the expenditure incurred in running the CESAM project, minimising these costs and ensuring expenditure and SME match funding targets are met.

To lead the development of new reach out opportunities for CESAM, including the recruitment of new SME beneficiaries, knowledge transfer and collaborative projects beyond the life of the ERDF funded CESAM project

To carry out any other tasks reasonably allocated by the AMSG

Essential and Desirable Criteria

Essential
Qualifications and Professional Memberships:
First degree (preferably in Engineering) with appropriate professional
qualifications.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Experience of project management
  • Analysis, interpretation and reporting on data
  • Evidence of building and developing successful teams
  • Leadership of others
  • Working both independently and as part of a team
  • Managing, developing, monitoring and reporting on financial information
  • Drawing on professional/specialist knowledge to solve presenting problems
  • A broad working knowledge of the innovation needs of manufacturing SME’s
  • and a clear understanding of the services and support required to support these needs
  • Knowledge of the regional and local innovation support organisations
  • Awareness of ERDF funding
  • Experience of managing, engineering or technical projects
  • Demonstrated excellence and significant experience in the following areas:
  • developing project plans; managing project stakeholders; project teams; risks; schedules and budgets.
  • Experience of leading project teams

Desirable
Qualifications and Professional Memberships:

  • Prince 2 Project Management
  • Post‐graduate management/professional qualification

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Experience of similar work in a Research establishment
  • Formal training in a business diagnostic model
  • Ability to design internal and external marketing initiatives
  • Advanced Manufacturing, Automotive, Engineering, and/or Higher Education experience
  • An understanding of ERDF funded projects
  • Experience of Project Management/Business analysis tools and techniques or Project Management /business analysis professional qualifications.
  • Strong knowledge of customer, industry business practices and value offerings
  • Solid technical knowledge/aptitude
