We have a number of flexible workers in the Change Programme team and this role could also be done on a flexible working basis.  We are passionate about change and driving business improvement from big bang process improvement to small scale tactical changes that improve our working environment.  Led by the Head of Change, the Change Programme team comprises Project Managers, Business Analysts and a PMO team.

We have a clear strategy outlining our development goals, mission, vision, principles and drivers as well as our objectives which ensures the wider team has oversight of the bigger picture at all times. Each year we create a ‘Call to action’ to help focus our minds; this year is all about ‘Managing the folio’ though:

  • Establishing resource management
  • Establishing value/benefits
  • Improving the basics – better business cases and projects that deliver the Business Plan
  • Optimising ourselves as a Centre of Excellence (CoE) 

We are a highly collaborative team and hold team development meetings each month where team members volunteer to contribute to team learning and development and/or recommend a topic for discussion such as Artificial Intelligence and its role in a world of big data and so on. 

What exactly will you be doing? 

Through your role you’ll be working as part of a flexible, dynamic and collaborative team.  AAT staff are your customers as much as AAT customers (B2B and B2C) are.  You’ll play a central role in supporting change at AAT as well as working with the wider business to help interpret strategy into targeted initiatives.  You’ll lead the fortnightly Project Managers Group (PMG) meeting attended by project managers and ICT leads.  You’ll capture information regarding projects status and RAIDs (at AAT we mean: Risks, Actions, Issues and Decisions) as well as noting and challenging dependencies across projects/programme.  You’ll also line manage the PMO Coordinator and have day-to-day matrix management of the Change Programme team and will support them in removing barriers and bottlenecks to progress.  You’ll be accountable for reporting on project/programme spend and forecasting financials.

What experience would be good to have? 

Strong communication and relationship building skills are important in this role.  We also think that having experience working within project/programme/portfolio environments is going to be useful too as you’ll need to understand the mechanics of these functions and in order to be able to best support delivery of the Projects/Programme.  An understanding of specific methodologies such as PRINCE 2, Agile etc are desirable – but not essential.  Investing in our people and helping grow careers is important to us at AAT, so we can provide training if necessary. What is essential is your attitude and desire to deliver excellence and help to maintain and build upon the good work of the Change Programme team.  Also, we are operating within the heavily regulated Education landscape so things can often shift mid-project -  attitude and a curiosity to appropriately challenge assumptions and decisions is also needed within this role.
