Metropolitan Police

It takes a huge number of people from all sorts of different backgrounds with a wide range of skills and experience. Do you have what it takes to be one of them? Find out if a career with the Met is what you’re looking for and what kind of challenges; experiences and rewards you could have in store.

FOR LONDON…

A modern, transformed and more efficient Met will Protect London by investing more of its time on the areas of greatest threat, risk and harm; – tackling effectively our highest priority of violence.

We will make every community safer through our new neighbourhood policing service and a stronger focus on safeguarding to protect the most vulnerable.

FOR OUR PEOPLE…

We will provide real time information to keep them safe and manage risk, and provide professional support so they can concentrate on their job; and equip them with the skills and knowledge they need.

We will deliver a digital service from contact to court to help meet demand, and trust in them to do their job well and have good professional judgement so their time is spent on activities that have the most impact.

The capital is changing and we must change with it. We want to be a Met that looks and feels like London. And we want all of our communities to value our work and the difference it makes.

Our mission is to keep London safe for everyone. To do so we will:

  • Focus on what matters most to Londoners.
  • Work more closely with partners and the public.
  • Achieve the best outcomes in the pursuit of justice and in the support of victims.

In support of this mission, we want to lead 21st century policing and:

  • Seize the opportunities of data and digital tech.
  • Care for each other, work as a team and be an attractive place to work.
  • Learn from experience, from others, and constantly strive to improve.
  • Be recognised as a responsible, exemplary and ethical organisation.

Ultimately, our vision for the Met is to be the most trusted police service in the world.

We contribute to making London the safest global city, we protect its unique reputation as an open and welcoming city, and we want Londoners to be proud of their police.

Our values, standards and behaviours

Our shared values reflect the special nature and demands of policing London. They are important to us because they shape and guide the way we work.

  • Professionalism
  • Integrity
  • Courage
  • Compassion

Our standards of behaviour translate these values into practice, underpinned by the code of ethics followed by every police force in England and Wales.
