Harvey Nash are representing a thriving Milton Keynes based software house who are looking for the next piece to the puzzle; a Software Project Manager who will work alongside the Head of Development. This is an organisation who are about to invest significantly in their software and application development function and this role will involve overseeing key business and development projects and closely working between the team and senior stakeholders.

You'll be working in a highly technical environment, managing teams and projects with crossover and working across all parts of the business. The role is similar to a Scrum Master but in a much more technical and hands-on style capacity that will see you day to day be involved in the tech of projects but not getting close enough to cutting code. The team is currently 40 heads and this will oversee the technical side of managing and leading a team to hit their goals, the operational side of things is taken care of and we're looking for a passionate techie.

Outside of the day to day with the team you'll be part of a larger technical function that reports directly into key C level figures across the business and you'll play a pivotal part in driving tech and changes to the business, products and applications going forward; here you'll find a structured development operation and opportunities for the future.

What are the key objectives?

  • Directly manage teams of developers across multiple work streams, responsible for their productivity, quality and on-time delivery.
  • Plan the team's workload to ensure delivery to agreed time, scope, cost and quality metrics, and effectively prioritise between short-term reactive demands and long-term planning
  • Performing management (Scrum Master) duties in their software development environment, planning sprints and releases to deliver software that meets business objectives while effectively managing risk and impediments
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of the technical challenges to support and mentor the development team
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders to negotiate and determine scope, requirements, schedules and budgets, employing risk management strategies as appropriate
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with product managers to help them manage the product backlog and produce an estimated and prioritised list of clear and concise user stories with acceptance criteria
  • Manage their development lifecycle processes

We're looking for someone who has a technical background, ideally that of a software developer who has been hands-on working key business projects. We need you to be able to manage a multidisciplined team whilst getting under the skin of the development capability whilst managing and overseeing core business projects that directly work and integrate into their key product areas. A background of managing small to large scale software projects is essential.

Person Requirements Profile

  • Ability to manage efficient Agile and Waterfall software development processes that maximise their delivery capability
  • Experience of running software development teams and software project management
  • Technically aware and must have experience working as a software developer
  • Experience in Java or any other OOP language
  • A leader of people, able to create and continuously improve an environment that inspires exceptional delivery and deals with issues that block this in a growth environment
  • Excellent communication skills, coupled with the ability to effectively and authentically influence
  • Resilient and thrives on getting the job done with the team to drive their success
