About the role

We now have an excellent and exciting opportunity for an ambitious Construction Project Manager to join our Capital Development Programme team. Based at the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) on Harwell Campus, the role will be supporting the delivery of a portfolio of significant construction projects worth circa £250M over 5 years, developing new state of the art scientific facilities of national and international importance.

Within this role, you will be responsible for managing the STFC delivery of significant and complex construction projects. The post holder will manage the interface between the client and the design team, appointed consultants and main contractors. You will work closely with the Senior Project Manager to lead on major projects through all RIBA stages, ensuring schemes deliver on budget and program.

Working within a team, you will be will be expected to manage schemes typically in the region of £5m - 50m, but could include managing a significant portfolio of lower value works. The nature of STFC’s science dictates that most major projects are likely to be complex and unique so will require you to ensure scientific goals are achieved whilst maintaining control of budget and programme constraints, delivering maintainable and resilient buildings. STFC major projects are usually delivered at pace and require robust decision making and leadership from the project manager.

About you

You will have good knowledge and experience in implementing project management processes, with a good understanding of project planning using an appropriate software package. You will hold a construction related degree qualification, or equivalent, and have a good knowledge of the different forms of construction. We are looking for someone with experience in the management of high value project delivery, who will be able to ensure that our programmes run to time, cost and quality. You will have a strong understanding of Health and Safety and a commercial awareness.
