Working within the NHS Cancer Programme Team, you will set the agenda for cancer services in England. Working with patients, clinicians, charities and across the public sector, our aim is to reduce preventable cancers, diagnose cancer earlier, increase survival and improve the quality of life and experience for cancer patients. We develop national policy and strategy, and work with our Cancer Alliances across the country to transform services for patients.

This is an exciting time for the NHS Cancer Programme. Our work has started to transform the experience of cancer patients across England and the publication of the NHS Long Term Plan provides us with an opportunity to go even further. You will be instrumental in delivering on our ambition to diagnose three in four cancers at an early stage so that even more people survive cancer in the future.

The successful candidate will have excellent project management skills and an ability to bring diverse stakeholders together to deliver the national strategy commitments of the Early Diagnosis team.

Primary responsibilities

• Support the development and delivery of a programme of work to deliver the priorities from the Long Term Plan, ensuring alignment with the wider corporate strategy;
• Lead on and deliver specific projects within the team, including project management and reporting;
• Engage with stakeholders, commissioners, clinicians, people with cancer and policy makers to inform the work of the team; and
• Work collaboratively with the cancer programme team and support work assigned to the team.

Current programme responsibilities include:

• Engage with stakeholders, commissioners, clinicians, people with cancer and policy makers to ensure timely delivery of the project;
• Work collaboratively with the cancer programme team and support work assigned to the team;
• Implementing the Targeted Lung Health Checks programme by 2023;
• Develop the evidence based strategy to roll out lung health checks; and
• Introduce additional early diagnosis solutions at scale to achieve the early diagnosis ambition by 2028.
