As a Project Management (Cost Estimating) Degree Apprentice, you will be part of the Commercial function working closely with all areas of the business, across a broad spectrum of tasks, from facility business cases to design studies to whole boat pricing that will give you an excellent understanding of the Submarines business and how it operates.

You will need to have an understanding of every function within the business and appreciate and understand what they do, why they do it and the costs associated with what they do. To understand the costs of all material required in the Design, Build and Testing of the product and associated Risks and Opportunities.

What Does The Apprenticeship Involve?

To perform this role we will give you a 5 year training programme, which will give you the opportunity too understand the function (by working in different areas), the Submarines business and how Cost Estimating as part of the Commercial function fits into the Corporate strategic thinking.

Cost Estimating is unique in the breadth of experience and understanding it can offer people who choose to work in this exciting, critical business area.

As well as the Cost Estimating training and development you will also study for a Degree in Project Management

Entry Requirements

5 GCSEs grade A*-C/4-9 (or equivalent) including Maths and English AND a minimum of 240/96 UCAS points, or equivalent (excluding UCAS points gained at AS level), to include Maths and one of the following subjects; Business-related (including Psychology and Law), IT, Engineering, Science, Numerate (excluding General Studies)

Overview of Business Unit

Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century.

Today we are the prime contractor in the Astute programme and the UK’s only designer and builder of nuclear powered submarines – one of the world’s most complex engineering challenges. The first four submarines in the class are now in service with the Royal Navy and the final three Astute class submarines are at various stages of construction at the Barrow site.

We are also the industrial lead for the Dreadnought programme, the Royal Navy’s next generation of nuclear deterrent submarines.
