Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Project Manager Additional Assets to join our Highways team to work in Derby.

Role Purpose:

  • Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Project Manager to join our DBFO team to work at M1 A1 & A50 Projects.

What you'll be doing

As an Assistant Project Manager Additional Assets you will:

Core:

  • Contribute to the successful completion of the scheme delivery, supporting the day-to-day delivery of construction schemes;
  • Ensure site records are accurately maintained and available;
  • Update and monitor short term programmes;
  • Maintain accurate progress records;
  • Develop an awareness of budget, cost control and cost recovery;
  • Live the Balfour Beatty Values;
  • Support a relentless focus on Zero Harm.

Health Safety & Environmental:

  • Contribute to the safety and welfare of the general public, staff and supply chain through observance of the safety policy and in conjunction with local HSE;
  • Monitor the works in accordance with Balfour Beatty of the H & S management systems.

Project Control:

  • Liaise with sub-contractors, including monitoring of contractor attendance and progress, providing support as necessary;
  • Updating the individual and overall works programmes;
  • Update actions and tasks on team’s visual management collaborative planning board;
  • Be developing an understanding of various methods of planning, programming and progress monitoring.

Quality:

  • Under the direction of the project manager update targets and KPI’s in line with Project objectives and monitor performance;
  • Develop an awareness of project risks and update the risk register

Productivity:

  • Ensure production of operational target programmes to reflect overall construction programme;
  • Lead weekly team meetings to review performance on site;
  • Work closely with the commercial team.

Co-ordination:

  • Undertake the booking of road space and co-ordination of traffic management routes and diversion for schemes delivery programme;
  • Liaison with Highways England and other authorities on the co-ordination of traffic management and diversion routes for schemes delivery programme;
  • Co-ordinate traffic management with other teams to best utilise the available road space. 

Who we're looking for

Personal Qualities and Experience:

  • Desirable to have construction and/or highway maintenance experience;
  • Demonstrable leadership skills with ability and willingness to face challenges, solve problems, and motivate others, while maintaining effective relationships with customers by meeting or exceeding their requirements and expectations;
  • Able to manage essential functions effectively by consistently driving for quality, profitable, safe, and timely results on the assigned project;
  • Experienced and familiar with team-based delivery, contracting and the design-build process;
  • Presentation skills and verbal/written skills;
  • Able to demonstrate proficiency using a personal computer (PC) and company communication tools, such as email, internet, and Microsoft products (e.g., Word, Excel, Office, Outlook);
