Project Manager Operational Relocation
Through the practice and application of lean manufacturing and ergonomic design principles our client can eliminate waste from a manual handling process to deliver time, space and labour savings with improved quality and safety.
Automotive manufacturers and their suppliers make up a large part of our business, with aerospace, electronics, other engineering manufacturers and a wide range of other industries, including medical, defence, rail, grocery, retail, logistics and distribution. The company differentiates itself through its capability to deliver bespoke engineered solutions to all customers, ranging from single workstations or trolleys for a small independent engineering workshop to entire production and order assembly lines for some of the largest retail logistics and mail order operations.
The company is based out of a single site (near Heathrow), with approximately 50 employees serving the business in sales, purchasing, office administration, accounts, technical design and production roles. The business is well structured and profitable with a stable workforce and a commitment to capital investment when it is required.
Established over 35 years ago, has developed a strong market presence, an outstanding reputation for quality and reliability and a loyal customer base.
Background To The Role
After 25 years in its current location, and having grown to occupy three warehouse units, redevelopment of the site for housing now requires the company to relocate during 2021.
The business is seeking a Project Manager to run and co-ordinate the relocation to a single larger warehouse within a few miles of its present location.
Whilst in itself a specific term project, with anticipation of completion by the 3rd or 4th quarter of 2021, opportunities may exist within the business for project management within other larger sales projects in due course, but that is not a condition of the role.
Involvement with the fit-out contract at the new location, and detailed co-ordination of the physical move to new premises will involve rapid assimilation of the way the company operates, enabling general support of all daily processes, including sales administration, technical design, purchasing and production processes, warehouse & inventory control, along with consideration of risk and knowledge of health and safety in an installation environment.
This is a logistical, technical and commercial role and will involve working directly with colleagues from each of our departments to ensure project completion on time, to specification and within budget. Seamless control of relocation of stock parts into a new storage system at the new premises, keeping our vital customers supplied is of key importance. Setting up of fire, health and safety procedures etc at the new premises is an important component. Co-ordinating facilities for staff welfare, furniture and office equipment are part of the relocation, and management (both termination and renewal) of key service provider contracts, such as photocopier, alarm and door entry systems, pest control, recycling etc etc indicate the breadth of involvement. Informing customers and suppliers of our new location details, new stationery, signage and so on are also part of the requirement. Engaging existing staff to carry out suitable elements of the move will be key to the overall success.
