Lionbridge is seeking an experienced Project Manager with a Technical Writing background

The role is home-based and involves working with our globally dispersed client and internal production teams.

The Project Manager will be accountable for Defining and Assuring the Technical Content of documentation. You will drive a culture to enable Technical Writers/Authors to deliver Right-First-Time documentation, consistently striving to improve delivery standards and exceed customer expectations.

This is a hands-on role and you will also author on a wide variety of topics and data types to ensure consistency of products delivered and to continuously improve performance. You will lead complex task definition activities and enable production by other Writers/Authors to meet customer KPIs.

What You Will Do

  • Schedule Management: Work with the Program owner to deliver project milestones and break down key tasks to hit each milestone.
  • Risk Management: Identify project risks and escalate as appropriate.
  • Definition: Assess new tasks ensuring source data is robust so that work can start immediately; and/or highlight data quality issues.
  • Creation: Author new and revised technical documentation, compliant with data creation process, guidelines, style guides and best practice.
  • Culture: Deliver on a 'Right First Time' ethos.
  • Process Improvement: Drive for continuous improvements in process and efficiency. Work with stakeholders internally to share best practices and ensure the creation of supporting documentation, processes, guides and training logs.
  • People: Provide coaching/training for Trainee/Technical Authors as required.
  • Accountability : Maintain and improve processes and quality levels to meet and exceed contractual and ISO Standards. Work directly with the Program owner to ensure personal development to meet individual objectives.

To Be Successful You Will Have

  • Extensive Technical Authoring competence preferably gained in a Technical Documentation environment.
  • A basic understanding of web development (HTML5, CSS, JavaScript) and C++, C#, Java programming, and is able to quickly adopt basics of other languages.
  • Knowledge of software development processes and generic tools (IDE etc.)
  • Ability to read and understand an API reference as well as code snippets and examples from CSS, XML, HTML, C, and JS files.
  • Ability to use an SDK, create simple projects with SDK templates and play around with SDK tools enough to be able to document them or verify instructions written by somebody else.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with email and internet communications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Proven ability to engaged stakeholders at all levels and handle conflict resolution.
  • Confidence, resourcefulness and the ability to take ownership of your tasks.
