Take a lead role in the modernisation of the Armed Forces.

With a domestic and international focus on ensuring the nation’s security and protecting our interests, The Ministry of Defence (MOD) is central to UK life. Combining exemplary Armed Forces with a network of support from our allies, we employ the most innovative approaches to securing a safe, stable and prosperous future. But in the face of a complex world in which our adversaries’ attempt to undermine us through measures such as cyber-attacks, proxy warfare and military expansionism, we must continue to evolve to meet these emerging issues head-on, while preventing conflict and building resilience. As such, we are modernising the MOD to ensure we are capable of tackling these threats and outsmarting our rivals, with a key focus on investing in our personnel, and seeing to it that they have the best possible skills. And it is against this progressive backdrop that you could take on the most fascinating challenge of your career.

The Land Warfare Centre is integral to the success of our plans. As the Army’s premier training organisation, we utilise an annual budget of £307million to support 5,000 military and civilian personnel and contractors across all three Services, and in doing so, we are responsible for driving the agile adaptation of the Armed Forces. Leading a department of 50, you will be a member of the senior leadership team responsible for this delivering this vision as you take the lead of the Trade Training Transformation Programme and the Collective Training Establishments Transition Programme. We are adapting the capabilities of the centre with a £600million investment over a ten-year period, so you will oversee the programmes and projects relating to this investment. From mapping out the delivery of projects, prioritising them and working with the finance teams to determine cost model development and verification through to taking ownership of governance and reporting procedures, this is a highly varied role that will have a huge impact on the future of the centre. Working in partnership with key stakeholders to introduce new training capabilities and optimise existing training initiatives, you will drive large-scale change, and you will build capability within your team to ensure the ongoing success of these initiatives.

This is a demanding role that will require significant project and programme management capabilities. With the organisation skills to manage a complex portfolio of projects that will lead to widespread organisational transformation, you will have a background in leading change. Bringing comprehensive budget-handling capabilities to the role, you will be able to support board-level investment decisions relating to projects worth £millions, and you will have the gravitas to influence senior Army personnel. Combining excellent verbal and written communication skills with good negotiation and leadership capabilities, you will be a highly resilient individual.

In return, we can offer you a forward-looking workplace in which ambitious ideas are actively encouraged. With plenty of training and development opportunities, you will have the scope to pursue your long-term goals, with the full support of colleagues who want you to excel. You will also benefit from a desirable package that includes a competitive salary, a desirable contributory pension scheme, 32 days of leave (inclusive of public holidays) and flexible hours.

Closing date: Sunday 23rd May 2021.
