Assistant Project Manager, Project Manager

You will be working as an Assistant Project Manager (or Project Manager depending upon experience)/Technical Advisor supporting the delivery of individual schemes for a client or working under a team leader providing a portfolio of projects to a customer.

Reporting to the Project Principal, the Assistant project manager (APM)/ Project Manager (PM) is a key member of the management team and you will lead a multi-disciplinary delivery team. The role involves stakeholder management within the project team, the joint venture community and the Client and Customer.

We are looking for someone that has worked in a client facing role and has experience of managing project teams of internal and external consultants.
Candidates who have an engineering background are preferred, as the role will also involve coordinating and managing design disciplines such as structures, geotechnical, mechanical, and electrical – however, this is not essential.

You will also be involved in initiating, managing and delivering projects under our business management systems (BMS), establishing budgets and monitoring and controlling the financial performance of projects.

The focus is on high quality project delivery in the areas of; Risk management, value engineering and management, project management, quality management, performance measurement & project reporting.

Duties will include, but not be limited to;

  • Milestones (setting or agreeing with senior project manager)
  • Manage the project changes for a designated area of the programme (creation, quality, submission and facilitating approval)
  • Supporting the provision of all review note information to meet the agreed submission dates
  • Supporting the provision of all task note information to meet the agreed submission dates
  • Supporting the setting the project budgets
  • Supporting the identification of resource issues Assisting to ensure and agree Subcontracts scope, including commercial arrangements, timing scales and understanding how they work, what the subcontractor will and will not do, and the agreed scope deliverables meet the client’s expectations

Candidate Specification

Being a key contributor and leader, a catalyst for change, in all business improvement initiatives, leading by example and demonstration of enthusiasm for the agreed improvement plans.
You will engage the stakeholder community ensuring effective inter-team relationships, facilitating the smooth progress of project work streams through the processes required by management plans and the customer’s management arrangements. Ensure continuous network building including expansion and sustainment.

If you have background in engineering and/or experience of project management in the construction industry with the focus on delivering buildings and infrastructure schemes through all stages of the project cycle, then this could be just the role for you. This role is client facing project management of schemes that vary in value and complexity.

As well as being a successful project manager/technical advisor, you will also have the following qualifications and experience:

  • Be approaching chartership or be a qualified member of a recognised relevant professional body with chartered status
  • Knowledge of project programming and scheduling software, e.g. MS Project
  • Experience of contract administration of NEC contracts
  • Experience of working in the public and private sector on stand-alone schemes and on frameworks
  • Have been a resident in the UK for at least five years
