Would you relish the opportunity to change the face of Greater Manchester, improve our transport network, and positively affect key decisions for the region? Do you enjoy working with a variety of different stakeholders supporting them in delivering their priorities?

As a Project Manager within the Projects Group function at Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) you will be supporting the development and delivery of projects safely to time, budget and high-quality standards, working in partnership with a variety of stakeholders from within, as well as external to the organisation. You’ll interpret and analyse data from different sources to track and report progress, proactively identifying risks and mitigation. You’ll be part of a dynamic and supportive team, working alongside other project professionals to deliver a wide range of projects.

You will have demonstrable relevant experience, with relevant transferable skills such as strong organisation and time management, excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders. You will be a strong team player, with equal ability to work effectively both on your own initiative and without close supervision to meet funding and operational targets and deadlines.  You’ll also be able to influence stakeholders and build relationships.  You will have financial acumen (such as managing budgets or contracts), analytical and problem-solving skills, and a working understanding of the transport and environmental context within which TfGM operates.

These are exciting times for TfGM's Projects Group. Building on recent successes such as the completion of the new Ashton-Under-Lyne Interchange, the opening of the Trafford Park Line Metrolink extension and the ongoing involvement in ground-breaking initiatives such as the Clean Air Plan, Bus reform and the Stockport Interchange Mixed Use Development scheme, along with rail enhancements. Our team is now working on the new Greater Manchester Infrastructure Programme (GMIP) with a level of investment which is likely to exceed over £1 billion over the next few years meaning that our current portfolio offers an exceptional opportunity to broaden and develop your experience and contribute to help people and places to thrive by enabling seamless, safe, and sustainable journeys for all.

In order to succeed in securing and subsequently delivering this ambitious programme over the short, medium and longer term, Projects Group is looking for additional professionals who can demonstrate they have a range of transferable skills and experience required to work successfully in a project’s environment.

There are two levels to the Project Manager role. Level 2 of the role requires evidence of your experience relating to the Level 1 criteria for the role as well as further experience of managing teams, people and pastoral care. Full details of the role can be found in the role profiles attached to this advert.

We are aiming to establish a talent pool of candidates for a range of Project Manager vacancies which may become available over the next six months.  If you are successful we will support your professional and career development through a combination of formal qualifications, training and structured personal development plans, as well as offering the opportunity to be involved in a range of exciting and high-profile projects.

The salary for this role is:
- Level 1 £34,899 - £39,279 per annum
- Level 2 £41,670 - £46,901 per annum

Salary on appointment will be dependent upon your skills and experience.

In return, as well as a competitive salary, we also offer a range of fantastic benefits, such as;

  • Free Rail or Metrolink travel to and from work within the Greater Manchester boundary
  • Free bus travel within Greater Manchester
  • 27 days holiday per annum
  • Access to the local government pension scheme

At Transport for Greater Manchester we encourage candidates to discuss flexible working options at any stage of the recruitment process.

We welcome and encourage applications from everyone regardless of age, disability, gender, ethnicity, religion and sexual orientation. We are actively building a diverse workforce and want to create an inclusive environment as we recognise the importance of our workforce reflecting the communities we serve.

So, if you believe you have the skills we’re looking for, or if you’d be interested in developing those skills with a view to getting involved in exciting programmes of work, we’d really like to hear from you, our people are our biggest asset.
