Project Development Officer (Tamar Valley AONB)

Opportunities like this are rare. As Project Development Officer (Farming in Protected Landscapes) you will be responsible for developing and facilitating the project portfolio on behalf of the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in order to deliver the (Defra-funded) Farming in Protected Landscapes programme which is aligned to the aims of the AONB's Management Plan.

The role will be primarily supporting farmers and land managers through agricultural transition over the next 3 years, including leading and supporting the development of capital works projects to deliver on-the-ground improvements for farms and land-holdings, with a focus on nature, climate, people and place. Written recommendations will then be presented to an assessment panel for funding approval.

The Farming in Protected Landscapes programme is part of the Government’s Agricultural Transition Plan. It is a new, national, core funded (Defra) programme and needs to be delivered within tight deadlines over the next 3 years.

Innovation will be required in order to encourage clusters of farmers to work with each other (some harder to reach), in order to deliver public goods and benefits (as outlined in the Government’s 25 Year Environment Plan).

A capital fund associated with the programme will need to be promoted, administered and delivered, liaising with existing farm advisers as required. The postholder will be required to work up/support and in some cases lead the overseeing of capital works projects on farms, keeping accurate records and undertaking quality assurance. The post holder will be required to set and up and maintain the necessary project progress and monitoring systems.

The post holder will require creativity, lateral thinking, flexibility and good people skills to solve any problems or challenges that arise, as well as to react to opportunities that could increase effectiveness of projects.

Tamar Valley AONB is looking for a committed, energetic and suitably experienced individual with a sharp focus. Someone who can relate to and inspire land managers and farmers and strengthen the long-term enhancement and conservation of our rich AONB landscape, heritage and biodiversity.

Any questions you may have or if would like to discuss any aspects of this role further please do not hesitate to contact the Tamar Valley AONB Unit: dcooke@tamarvalley.org.uk

This is a full time position but we are open to flexible working including part time hours and job share.

This is a fixed term contract to April 2024.
