Does your strong background in managing cross-organisational technology and cultural ways of working programmes, include experience of managing large, complex technical rollouts involving multiple technologies and locations? Then join Shelter as a Technology Programme Manager where you’ll play a vital strategic role at the heart of our Technology & Data team.

About Shelter
A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change, with individuals, in communities, across society, and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.

At Shelter we are united by our purpose to defend the right to a safe home. Our enemy is the social injustice at the core of the escalating housing emergency. We believe that to win that fight, we must be representative of the people we are here to help and those who support our movement for change. In all our people decisions, we take pride in being inclusive, fair, equitable and transparent.

We have committed to combat racism both within and outside Shelter and welcome you on our journey to becoming a truly anti-racist organisation.

About the team
The Technology and Data team develops and maintains Shelter's IT infrastructure and applications portfolio including the Supporter and Client CRM’s, provides high quality stakeholder management and customer service which puts the users at the centre through strategic business partnering and service desks, delivers change programmes that enable the adoption of new technologies whilst ensuring alignment to strategic priorities, leads on data management and governance including delivering a central data platform to support data driven decision making and intelligent insight.

About the role
As Technology Programme Manager, you’ll be responsible for managing the delivery of a full technology refresh for our entire retail shop estate. A major cross-divisional piece of work, the aim is to deliver improved stability and security to the shop estate and give them the technology it takes to maximise their revenue streams from both in-store and online sales. The programme will also bring the shops’ technology into line with the rest of our locations, thus allowing retail staff to play their full part in Shelter’s Fight for Home. And you’ll be playing the lead role. You’ll be responsible for coordinating the work of the constituent projects in order to deliver a tangible step change in the technology provision for our shops.

We are happy to talk about flexible working, personal growth, and to promote a workplace where you can be yourself and achieve success based only on your merit.

About you
To succeed, you’ll need a proven relevant background and a good understanding of different project management methodologies, ideally with experience of delivering using  both Agile and Waterfall. You’ll also need working knowledge of programme management principles such as Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) and experience of managing risk and budgets within IT Projects/Programmes. Familiarity with the technology used in the retail sector (EPOS systems) would also be useful, but is not as important as your clear delivery focus, stakeholder management skills at all levels of an organisation up to Board level and customer-facing outlook. A flexible approach in response to changing priorities and occasional irregular hours in the form of on-call availability is important too, as is a willingness to travel to other locations in the UK when necessary.

Benefits
We offer a wide range of benefits, including 30 days of annual leave, enhanced family friendly policies, pension and interest free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, payroll giving, cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme.

Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We’re here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.

Apply to be part of our team and be the change you want to see in society.

Safeguarding is everyone's business. Shelter is committed to protecting the health, wellbeing and human rights of those we support, and enabling them to live free from harm, abuse and neglect. All our staff will be expected to observe professional standards of behaviour and conduct their work in line with our Safeguarding Policies.

Shelter does not accept unsolicited CVs from external recruitment agencies nor accept the fees associated with them.
