Job Function
Project Manager

Royal Museums Greenwich (RMG) is a collection of diverse historical sites, each with a unique identity and a common purpose to serve our communities, through sharing our collections and expertise. We are a place to explore the sea, space, art and history and our new strategy ‘Charting Our Course’ puts our people at the core of its success.

The Royal Observatory Greenwich (ROG) will celebrate its 350th anniversary in 2025. This will be a once-in-a-generation opportunity to revisit the ways in which the site works, revitalise the displays and rethink the stories that we tell, in an ambitious project that combines master-planning, site improvements and new galleries to increase visitor numbers substantially beyond pre Covid levels.

This exciting new role will be responsible for co-ordination of all aspects of the programme and will have an acute understanding of tolerances around time, quality, and cost. We are about to appoint the Architect who will lead a multi-disciplinary team to activate the capital build and we now need an experienced and dynamic project manager to oversee the professional teams and co-ordinate engagement with internal and external stakeholders through to at least 2025.

Set in a World Heritage Site, the home of Greenwich Mean Time, the Prime Meridian and London’s only Planetarium, the ROG holds a unique position as a Science Centre, Museum and Heritage site. The new project will reveal how centuries of scientific work at the ROG have shaped our understanding of the universe we live in and the Earth we live on- a place to ‘Lose yourself and find your place in time and space...’ The ethos of curiosity and wonder will inform how the project is delivered and how visitors engage with it. This project will need to work alongside continuing to keep the site open to the public and the delivery of a rolling engagement programme.

The programme will deliver against our guiding principles and comprises multiple elements across the ROG site, including:

  • Capital build.
  • Commercial fit out.
  • Exhibition and Interpretative display (both internal & external).
  • Integral digital aspect (social media, communication, internal infrastructure etc.).

This is a permanent and full time role; with six major sites, projects like this would be a main part of our future, so at maturity stage of this project it is anticipated that this role will client project manage other significant capital projects.
