We are looking for an experienced Project Manager to join the Council’s Waste Strategy team. We welcome applicants who will lead the delivery of a range of waste related projects and programmes including developing future delivery options and or service harmonisation within the Waste Services of Buckinghamshire.

The Communities directorate is at the heart of the organisation and this role, within Neighbourhood Services, provides a fast-paced and extremely rewarding opportunity in a supportive environment. This is an exciting time to join us, as we grow and develop our services following the creation of Buckinghamshire Council, and in response to the Government’s Resources & Waste Strategy and the far reaching Environment Act.

About us

The role sits within the newly formed Waste Strategy team. The team are friendly, approachable and enjoy working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to offer proactive, innovative and customer-focussed solutions. The team will be undertaking option appraisals, reviewing contracts and campaigns, and developing policies and strategies, as the new unitary council considers waste harmonisation opportunities and future service delivery models. Working within Neighbourhood Services means there are plenty of opportunities for learning and development, in both a formal and informal capacity. The wider environment is dynamic and supportive, and we invest in ‘growing our own’, so there are excellent opportunities for career progression.

About the role

The Project Manager will have relevant experience in leading and managing programmes and projects in a complex environment.  The post holder will be working closely with the Neighbourhood Service Director, Heads of Service (Waste) and the Waste Strategy Manager, as well as in-house and external experts in multi-disciplined project teams.

The Project Manager will have an excellent track record of project management and delivery of projects to time, quality, and cost.  The post holder will lead the scoping, delivery and management of a range of projects, be able to devise and maintain project documentation, have strong communication skills and be able to engage with stakeholders at all levels in a proactive, politically sensitive manner.

The work will involve high-profile decisions through organisation governances in line with the Buckinghamshire Council’s vision, values, and strategic objectives.

About you

The ideal candidate will need to be an enthusiastic, self-motivated and organised person.
You will need to be able to demonstrate initiative and the ability to manage complex programmes and projects, including prioritising and co-ordinating project teams and colleagues.

You will need to have excellent experience in managing projects using formal methods such as PRINCE 2, and the ability to work under pressure to deliver against project milestones.  You must be able to collaborate closely with relevant in-house and external expertise to deliver various projects to ensure outcomes are delivered meeting expectations.  You will  lead, negotiate and make decisions to take forward the programme of projects with stakeholders.  You will need to be customer-focused and anticipate customer changes to deliver high service standards.
Waste management experience and knowledge is not essential but is desirable.
