The role

This is an exciting opportunity for a Cost Manager to join the Campus Development directorate with the role split between the newly commissioned Campus Planning Team and the Capital Projects Team at a pivotal moment in the future shaping of the University Campus.

Supporting the Campus Division department target of developing a capital ‘Framework’ plan (within an overall strategic plan) to assure the deliverability and feasibility of 1. complex emergent capital projects 2. a forward looking 15-year capital plan for the whole University Campus.

You will work collaboratively as part of a multi-professional team (space planners, architects, data analysts, etc) to agree the deliverability of the capital projects within the strategic aims of the University.

What will you be doing?

As Cost Manager you will take full responsibility for the successful cost management of key strategic building projects and programmes within the Capital Projects portfolio. You will be fully accountable for the full cost and budget management of projects and programmes, from inception, through completion, to the occupation of a fully functioning facility. The role will support the scoping of key individual ‘emergent’ capital projects, contributing cost and procurement strategy advice to feasibility studies and options appraisals led by the Head of Campus Planning and team.

You will be developing cost plans and managing the budgets on smaller/batched projects that do not have external QS resource. You will also be involved in strategic cost advice on projects/emergent project arising through a master planning process through the initial planning/conceptual stages within the University.

In addition, the postholder will be responsible for attending/chairing a number of relevant Workstreams and Groups.

You have a degree accredited by the RICS, and an active membership of a professional construction industry body (RICS).

You have significant demonstrable experience within a cost manager role of successfully delivering major construction projects within budget (in excess of £5M) from inception through to completion, a proven ability to understand financial information and the ability to identify, analyse and manage project cost issues and financial risks.

Significant experiences of working with various forms of building contract including NEC and JCT and dealing with contractual claims is also required.
