As our Project Manager (Level 2) , your starting salary will be £37418.00 and you will have opportunities to progress to £41159.00 over time. New joiners to the Met Office will start on the salary band minima.

Your total reward package is potentially worth up to £51767.00 annually, which includes basic salary, potential corporate bonus and employer pension contributions.

Job Purpose

As our Project Manager (Level 2), the key duties are:

  • Delivery - Create and lead the project to deliver the agreed outcomes within time, cost and quality constraints.
  • Project Management - Day to day management and leadership of the project and the project team.
  • Business Case - Coordinate development of the project Business Case.
  • Budget - Track delivery within budget.
  • Resources - Schedule and manage resources to deliver the project.
  • Stakeholder Management - Identify key stakeholders and develop effective relationships.
  • Risks & Issues - Identify and monitor project risks and issues. Develop mitigating actions and escalate as appropriate.
  • Governance - Provide key reports and support effective governance and decision making.
  • Assurance - Support or set appropriate project assurance.
  • Guidance & Support - Seek appropriate support, guidance and coaching from the project community.
  • Project Performance & Controls - Build Project Plan and apply appropriate project principles to deliver stated objectives. Identify and set appropriate Project Controls. Track and report delivery against milestones.

There is an expectation that travel to Exeter HQ will be needed periodically to complete project work as part of this role.

Essential Qualifications, Skills & Abilities

The essential criteria are:


  • Prince2 Practitioner and/or APM (Association for Project Management) PMQ Certificate or equivalent project related experience.
  • Can demonstrate experience of delivering a project of low complexity defined by the PDCF as having a high degree of certainty, are smaller in size, have clear stakeholders and can be managed using standard procedures and methodologies.
  • A proven ability to manage issues and recommend solutions through formal and informal channels, securing effective outcomes.
  • Proven ability to co-ordinate multiple activities and work streams, handling shifting demands and priorities, to deliver a customer requirement or business benefit.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a proven track record of successful liaison with stakeholders.
