Project Manager

The role of the Senior Grid Project Manager is to lead the Grid scope project delivery and Grid compliance requirements of Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), IDNOs and customers. Interact with engineering design team and drive outputs to aid project complete and compliance. Your role will also require you to understand the ICP design & operational potential issues specific to a project for various DNOs/IDNOs. The role covers the design scope of Grid DNO/ICP electrical networks in the following categories:

  • LV cable networks.
  • HV overhead networks at all voltages up to and including 132kV.
  • HV cable networks at all voltages up to and including 132kV.
  • Substation layouts at all voltages up to and including 132kV.
  • Self-determination of Point of Connection (POC) at LV.
  • Self-determination of Point of Connection (POC) at HV; and
  • Self-determination of Point of Connection (POC) at EHV.



Accountabilities

  • Use Project Management tools to track, monitor and report on all grid related activities, such as, POW, action trackers, terms of reference, transmittals, etc.
  • Site visits when required to assess ICP progress towards energisation.
  • Ensure the EPC team / engineering fulfil all RFI's from the Power System consultant in a timely manner.
  • The DNO approved ICP design is achieved in timely manner.
  • To ensure the approved DNO design is implemented correctly, and verification of ICP electrical installations comply with the latest DNO/IDNO policies, procedures (G81) and safety guidelines.
  • Contributes to the business stream strategy.
  • Monitor theICP design submission progress based on the following:
    • Relevant adopting utility policies, procedures, specifications, and codes of practice.
    • Distribution Code.
    • Electricity at Work Regulations.
    • ESQCR - The Electricity Safety, Quality and Continuity Regulations 2002.
    • National Electrical Registration Scheme (NERS) Requirements Document.
    • IET Regulations (BS7671).
    • Energy Networks Association (ENA) Regulations.
  • Provide analysis, advice, and support to resolve problems and enhance business/operational performance.
  • Provide functional leadership to all sub-contractors, ICP, Power System Consultants and all key stakeholders.
  • Project manage all grid activities - ICP full scope, G99 compliance, BEGA (where applicable), EPC engineering interconnecting infrastructure, etc.
  • Develops and maintains professional networks as a basis for a contribution to the development of best practice and fit for purpose solutions; and
  • Formulates training and development and succession plans for their function.



SHEQ (Safety Health, Environment & Quality) Responsibilities

  • Read and understand the company's policies and procedures.
  • Understands and complies with applicable procedures and processes within the IMS.
  • Evaluation and production of design risk assessments.
  • Ensure grid works complies with current legislation, standards, and company method statements
  • Site safety is considered at the design stage.


Skills and Knowledge

  • Qualification MSc / MEng / BSc / BEng or equivalent.
  • Professional with experience (10+ years) in the ICP and/or DNO/IDNO industry.
  • Deciphering technical information.
  • Good working experience with AutoCAD user and all relevant design computational tools.
  • Extensive experience with DNO substations & networks (132kV, 66kV, 33kV and 11kV) and full ICP scope.
  • Good commercial knowledge and understanding; and
  • Leadership skills.


Core Duties

  • 132kV, 66kV, 33kV, 11kV Substation design & layout - approved DNO/IDNO layout (SLD, Signal List, Plant/Equipment, etc).
  • Drive the ICP design approval(s).
  • ICP delivery scope include all protection & control requirements, earthing, cabling, metering, labelling, etc.
  • Interpret coordination studies & protection schemes to include DC & AC voltages.
  • Knowledge Grid protection schemes at BSP and GSP interface.
  • Support the ICP via DNO, protection settings for relays for various protection schemes, such as, unit protection, differential protections, back-up protection, loss of mains protection, G99, G100, Rate of Change of Frequency (RoCoF) protection, directional protection, etc.
  • Undertake high-level review of Power System studies, Load Flow studies, Fault Level studies, Harmonic Analysis, Voltage Flicker, Earthing studies, etc.
  • Efficiently project management and manage the delivery of your work; and
  • Project financial reporting and control.


Support CDM Duties

  • Designers must:
    • Ensure clients are aware of their duties.
    • Make sure they (the designer) are competent for the work they do.
    • Co-ordinate their work with others as necessary to manage risk.
    • Co-operate with CDM coordinator and others; and
    • Provide information for the Health & Safety file.

 

  • Designers must avoid foreseeable risks by:
    • Eliminating hazards from the construction, cleaning, maintenance, and proposed use (workplace only) & demolition of a structure.
    • Reduce risks from any remaining hazard; and
    • Give collective risk reduction measures priority over individual measures.

 

  • Take account of the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 when designing a workplace structure:
    • Provide information with the design to assist clients, other designers, and contractors.
    • In particular - inform others of significant or unusual/ "not obvious" residual risks.
    • Designers must be given relevant information by the CDM coordinator.
    • Risks which are not foreseeable do not need to be considered.
    • CDM Regulations do not require "zero risk" designs; and
    • Amount of effort made to eliminate hazards should be proportionate to the risk
