Head of Portfolio
RSSB is an expert body that helps the rail industry collaborate to continuously improve and meet future challenges. It spans the whole railway, including in its membership infrastructure companies, train and freight operators, rolling stock owners and suppliers to the industry. RSSB supports rail in the areas of safety, standards, knowledge, innovation and a wide range of cross-industry schemes.
This is a great opportunity to join our new projects Directorate which was set-up earlier this year in response to member and stakeholder feedback, enabling RSSB to work in an agile, cross-collaborative and efficient manner. The Head of Portfolio will support the timely delivery of project outputs, ensuring a high quality of work is maintained to achieve the intended benefits for customers. A key focus of this role will be to deliver improvements with respect to the delivery of projects on time and within budget, working with the PMO to implement improved project estimating and baseline cost management.
Ultimately, you will lead RSSB towards being renowned for high quality delivery of projects to meet the rail industry’s needs to lay the foundations for a more commercial future. You will manage a team and lead the development of teams within RSSB focussing on good practice project management techniques tailored to suit RSSB’s work and implementing efficient reporting, risk and opportunity management and lessons learnt processes.
You will have an MAPM or equivalent level professional standard, together with experience of managing several programmes and projects in different lifecycle phases. Experience of business or multi-project/portfolio management processes and systems is key to the role together with experience of managing external contracts and suppliers to deliver elements of project work. You will be a strong communicator with the ability to explain programme management concepts and coach stakeholders to strive to improve. You will have experience of successfully delivering though a team and utilising programme and project management tools to achieve successful outcomes.
