Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service are looking for Senior Project Managers to enhance our team based in Exeter. You'll join us on a full-time, permanent basis, and in return you will receive a competitive salary of GBP45,411 - GBP48,474 per annum. The role is office based, but there is the availability of some flexible and / or home working, which can be discussed with the successful applicant.
We have 3 roles available:
1 x Permanent Contract
1 x 12 Moth Fixed Term Contract
1 x 6 Month Fixed Term Contract

About the Senior Project Manager role:
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Strategic Business Change department, as a Senior Project Manager to support the Programme Manager with strategic developments and tactical deployment in relation to projects.
Through the application of project management skills, this position will be responsible for a number of project deliverables and their associated compliance to time, quality and cost, maintaining a good overview of each project activity, identifying, raising, and resolving issues encountered to ensure the effective delivery of the programme.
Key responsibilities of a Senior Project Manager:
- Supporting the Programme Manager / or as otherwise appropriate with strategic developments and tactical deployment in relation to the relevant project(s).
- Planning and managing the implementation of the designed specific projects and maintain the relationship with the business owners to deliver the project in accordance with the agreed milestones.
- To influence and guide the Project Board in determination of measurable objectives to be achieved by the project, including vision of outcome of the project and service impact, ensuring these are compatible with the overall corporate objectives of and/or relevant individual Directorates.
- Ensuring that the solutions proposed by the project meet the requirements and expectations of Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Authority.
- Establishing an appropriate project team, ensure that the skills available are continuously monitored to meet the planned stages of the project and/or supplemented by additional resources.
- To ensure 3rd party plans (e.g. contractors, internal suppliers, Estates, ICT, HR) are incorporated into the designated project phases ensuring the overall direction and timescales are maintained.
- To be responsible for producing and delivery of communications to stakeholders, in liaison with the Corporate Communications section, to ensure that Devon and Somerset employees and stakeholders at all levels are informed about the scope. impact and progress of the projects.
- Providing professional advice, progress reports and position statements as required by the Programme Manager and as appropriate/directed, to the Executive Board/Service Leadership Team.
What we are looking for in our Senior Project Manager:
- Qualified to Prince 2 Practitioner / Professional level or equivalent level of skills and experience.
- Experience of working in and managing complex projects, with a range of stakeholders who may have competing needs where dependencies have to be managed.
- Excellent level of verbal communication/presentation skills; including proven ability to influence / change stakeholders views.
- Experience of risk assessment and management within a project environment.
- Experience of managing complex budgets with varied reporting requirements.
- Proven ability to effectively lead and manage a successful team.
