Operations Manager - Energy from Waste

We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to oversee the efficient operation of our clients Energy from Waste Plant. Your role will involve ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and safety standards, while maintaining high-quality performance.

Responsibilities of an Operations Manager:

  • Efficiently manage waste disposal and oversee steam and electricity generation.
  • Ensure strict compliance with legal, regulatory, quality, and safety standards.
  • Monitor waste quality and quantity, collaborating with Team Leaders.
  • Investigate emissions/incidents and implement corrective actions.
  • Liaise with contractors and maintain accurate data reporting.
  • Oversee weighbridge functionality and vehicle cleanliness.
  • Organise removal of by-products and update operating instructions.
  • Supervise, support, and motivate staff.
  • Participate in annual planning and maintenance.
  • Ensure staff competency and develop clear procedures.
  • Analyse output data and manage holiday requests.
  • Oversee day-to-day health and safety on-site, working closely with the company s health and safety manager.
  • Control the Permit to Work system.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping.
  • Act as Safety controller within the PTW system, ensuring compliance.
  • Report and address any violations of safe working practices.
  • Identify necessary changes to safe systems of work and risk assessments.
  • Foster strong relationships with all departments.
  • Understand obligations under the EA operating permit and ProjectCo agreement.

Requirements

  • Strong Leadership: Essential experience in team management.
  • Commitment: Maintain up-to-date execution plans, including schedules and personnel/equipment mobilization.
  • Health and Safety Competency: Demonstrate excellent safety behaviors and enforce safety expectations.
  • Effective Communication: Proficient in written and verbal English for interactions with Commissioning Teams, Client representatives, and staff.
  • Work Environment: Ability to work at height and in confined spaces, supported by relevant training and experience.
  • Energy Systems Knowledge: Experience in operating steam-to-energy and high-pressure boiler systems.
  • High Voltage Authorisation: Desirable qualifications for electrical work.
