Assistant Construction Project Manager - Restoration/Heritage Main Contractor London

A leading conservation specialist in London and the South East of England is seeking an Assistant Project Manager. This is an excellent opportunity to work on some of the UK s most notable landmarks, including Grade-listed buildings, scheduled monuments, World Heritage Sites, parochial churches, country estates, and modest memorials, with 90% of their 2025 workload already secured.

The company s services include stone conservation, facade cleaning, graffiti removal, statue protection, historic flooring, joinery, leadwork, brickwork, copper, zinc, and steel work, decorative surfaces, mosaics, and more.

Assistant Project Manager Role Overview:

The Assistant Project Manager will support the Project Manager in the successful delivery of restoration and heritage projects. Reporting directly to the Project Manager, the Assistant will assist in overseeing daily site activities, coordinating subcontractors and suppliers, and maintaining high standards of quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Project Manager in overseeing multiple jobs simultaneously, ensuring all work is carried out according to specifications, drawings, and method statements. Support in briefing operatives on their tasks.
  • Assist in coordinating and controlling subcontractors and suppliers in conjunction with the Project Manager and Site Manager.
  • Support the implementation and enforcement of the company s Health & Safety and Quality Management policies, ensuring compliance with CDM regulations and maintaining appropriate records.
  • Act as a supporting point of contact with clients, maintaining clear and professional communication throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Help manage project-related correspondence, including valuing works, keeping detailed records, and informing the Project Manager/Contracts Manager of relevant matters.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager to support efficient servicing of the project and the effective dissemination of information.
  • Assist in facilitating communication and discipline among the on-site workforce and project management team.
  • Promote the best interests of the company at all times and undertake additional tasks as reasonably assigned by the Project Manager.
Requirements:
  • Relevant construction-related qualifications.
  • Relevant CSCS Card.
  • Good technical knowledge with an understanding of commercials.
  • Background in main contracting or refurbishment projects is ideal.
  • Understanding of construction methodologies, specifications, and drawings.
  • Awareness of managing health and safety standards on-site and compliance with CDM regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.
  • Ability to assist in maintaining accurate project records and managing project correspondence efficiently.
  • Strong team player with the ability to support and coordinate site teams.
