An exciting role of Project Manager Preconstruction has been created to join a dedicated team at Willmott Dixon focused on winning and developing education projects for the Department for Education across England. This role will build on our successes of 2023-24 and will lead the customer journey and preconstruction phase.

The position will form part of a tight-nit, creative, and fun team, who are eager to push the boundaries of what is possible alongside this like-minded customer, through the latest approaches to innovation, education, and sustainability. The team work from a base at our Hitchin office 2 days per week with the opportunity to work from our Central London office and home on other days in the week.

Responsible for leading project teams on the DfE Construction Framework (High Value Band) in collaboration with the SAS Bid Service and our Local Teams to achieve a min 50% win rate. Develop our project management approach in line with our growth and efficiency goals. Manage projects from bid to end of RIBA stage 3, handing over to the Local Team.

Responsibilities:

Lead project tenders successfully to maintain PITT and increase ITT success rates.

  • Bid to win - minimum 6nr projects per year or circa 100m - 150m/annum
  • Bid Strategy - set and communicate the strategies for individual project tenders, focussing on bid-winning approaches that deliver the customer vision.
  • Project Leadership - Represent Willmott Dixon as the leader of our DfE tenders. Assign roles and responsibilities to project team members, planning resources and programming to ensure projects can be delivered on time. Identify and mitigate risks.
  • Interview Preparation - lead the strategy and preparations for Client Engagement Meetings.
  • Commercial - integrate commercial strategies on DfE project tenders, collaborating with Local Team commercial people.
  • Supply Chain - collaborate with Local Teams to identify the right Supply Chain partners and engage them in the preconstruction process at the right time. Engage supply chain and design partners such that they become integral to our team.
  • Customer - Create and manage the stakeholder engagement plan, provide regular, accurate feedback to the customer and support contractual negotiations alongside our Local Team. Champion Willmott Dixon standards, values, culture and behaviours.
  • Work with regional Preconstruction Managers - to share process, collateral, and win strategies for overflow projects where no capacity within the National Team.
  • Growth (team and turnover) - Identify areas for evolution of the service aligned to the strategic direction of the business (growth and efficiency) and implement associated change.
  • Ongoing review/adaption - of DfE bidding best and next practice and development of the skills to align. Constantly learning from results/feedback/analysis to refine process and standards for continual improvement and greater success.
  • Framework renewal - contribute to positioning and structuring for framework renewal bid and future live framework service offering.
  • Training & Development - attend/undertake regular training courses.

Essential:

  • Significant and proven experience in a similar role
  • DfE Project Management Experience

Desired:

  • Schedule (Resource/Time) Management Platforms
  • APM qualifications and ChPP
  • InDesign
