Job Title: Operations Manager Home Delivery Fleet
Location: Stevenage
Reports To: Operations Director
Travel Requirements: Travel to Bury St Edmunds and Deeside

VMS Automotive operate nationwide with workshops and vehicle hire sites throughout the UK with our Head Office based in Stevenage and our Operations centre based in Bury St Edmunds. As a result of our continued growth, we are looking for additional team members to join our team to help us continue providing outstanding service to our customers.

Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Operations Manager to oversee the home delivery fleet operations for Iceland Supermarket. The role will be based primarily at our Head Office in Stevenage, and will involve managing key operational aspects of the fleet. This includes ensuring vehicle compliance (MOT, servicing, and refrigeration maintenance), minimizing vehicle off-road (VOR) time, and liaising with both internal teams and the client to ensure smooth fleet management. The successful candidate will build and maintain strong relationships with our client, suppliers, and colleagues. They will also support the Woolpit-based operations team and provide remote support to the administration team based at Iceland s head office in Deeside. Occasional travel to Iceland s head office in Deeside and our own head office in Stevenage will be required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day fleet operations for supermarket home delivery vehicles.
  • Ensure full compliance with vehicle regulations, including MOTs, servicing, and refrigeration maintenance.
  • Minimise VOR (Vehicles Off Road) time through proactive management and coordination with relevant teams.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for Supermarket client regarding fleet operations, building strong, effective client relationships.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and service providers to maintain fleet efficiency.
  • Provide support and leadership to the Woolpit-based operations team and operational support to the team at Iceland's head office.
  • Work closely with the Operations Director to align with company goals and ensure smooth operational performance.
  • Travel occasionally to clients head office in Deeside and VMS s head office in Stevenage for meetings and support.

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience in fleet or logistics management, preferably within a home delivery or retail environment.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle compliance, including MOTs, servicing schedules, and refrigeration maintenance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and team members.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage VOR and other operational challenges effectively.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team across multiple locations.
  • Flexibility to travel occasionally as required.
  • Technical knowledge from a vehicle maintenance and repair perspective.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant qualifications in fleet management or logistics are desirable but not essential.
  • A full UK driving license is required.
