As part of that, ONS will deliver the first digital Census in 2021 and be a leading producer of online surveys across government and beyond.

The role

This key role sits within the Programme Management Office of the Economic Statistics Transformation Programme (ESTP). You will provide independent specialist hands-on planning support to the Programme Office Manager, playing an active role in both planning management and reporting against the plan promoting programme and project management methods and standards. 

ESTP supports the production of better statistics which will lead to better decisions for the UK, and addresses issues and recommendations from a number of recent reviews. 

A vital part of our strategy is improving economic statistics to keep pace with the rapidly changing nature of the economy. 

Skills Knowledge and Experience

It is essential that you: 

have led on all aspects of project/programme planning, including the development, updating and monitoring of plans and schedules, milestones, interdependencies and project/programme outputs 

have a track record of prioritising and delivering outputs in a fast-paced and time-sensitive environment 

have excellent interpersonal, communication and relationship management skills with a proven record of establishing, building and maintaining strong, collaborative and productive relationships across functional and organisational boundaries 

have a proven ability in organising a complex workload, prioritising, and managing rapidly changing demands and priorities operating using multiple methodologies 

have an understanding and application of a range of frameworks, methodologies, tools and techniques to track progress against delivery and communicate progress to team and stakeholders 

Knowledge and experience of using MS Project or a similar planning software tool 


A project management qualification for example PRINCE2 Practitioner, Agile Project Management Practitioner, APM Project Management Qualification, APM Practitioner Qualification
