Project Manager

What is the purpose of the role?

You will be an Operational Project Manager, in London’s Waste Network division responsible for delivering some of the key projects required to facilitate the significant capital investment programmes. The projects are focused around the sewage network assets and providing technical input to facilitate the capital programmes. These projects will provide essential facilitation of safe sewer access and programme delivery for the Thames Water capital programme, Tideway Tunnel, London Underground, High Speed 2 (HS2) and other large developments in London.

What makes this role unique?

Being involved in Operations as well as Capital Delivery is a rare opportunity. Thames Tideway Tunnel alone has an estimated cost of £4.2bn, being the largest infrastructure project in the UK water industry. The opportunities to grow and develop your knowledge and skills in a fast-paced environment are enormous. You will have the chance to challenge the norm and consider new approaches or ideas.

What will this role involve?

Deliver asset inspection and refurbishment programs to ensure the sewage network system is operating effectively and efficiently.

Provide Thames Waters readiness for the operation of the Tideway Tunnel. This will involve reviewing existing service regimes, refurbishing or replacing assets, development of management systems and providing technical input.

Deliver asset change and standards programs, by reviewing current protocol, working with internal and external stakeholders to deliver health and safety and efficiency improvements.

Coordinate resource, either contractor or operational staff to ensure project deliverables are met along with day to day operational activities.

Identify, engage and manage direct and indirect stakeholders appropriately in context of their role within the project or projects.

Establish regular project review meetings covering cost, program, resource and developing reports.

Maintain project cost models covering actual, accrual and forecast.

Responsible for managing and co-ordination of onsite work, to include the management of contractors and TW employees. Ensuring all activity is carried out safely, with no impact to customer service and issuing permits as required.

Be a leader for health and safety management, taking full accountability and responsibility for all projects under their control.

Ensure compliance with statutory regulations and internal procedures. Ensure that operational requirements are considered and taken into account during project delivery.

Represent Operations at project reviews and through the approvals process.

What are we looking for?

Do you have extensive operational understanding? Have you got similar capital delivery experience? You will understand the challenges faced by operational teams and be able to deliver under pressure. Well-developed project management skills will be required in order to achieve the objectives of this role and balance competing demands to deliver a solution accepted by all parties. The ideal candidate will be able to identify and breakdown system processes, operational and technical challenges to assist in the development of winning strategies. Technical knowledge of wastewater operations would be advantageous, with a strong experience of mechanical and/or civil engineering knowledge.
