About the Role

As a Senior Engineering Project Manager, you will be responsible for managing the delivery of one of our highest profile science and engineering projects to key industry customers. You will be a member of the Project Management leadership team, responsible for developing, contracting and managing the delivery of a project to ensure we delight the customer.

About You

 You will have

  • A background in Engineering or Systems Engineering
  • A track record of successfully managing the bid and delivery of complex projects ideally in a science or research-led environment, with an ability to translate scientific capabilities into solutions that meet the needs of Government and industry.
  • Experience in managing projects that have multiple partners from industry, government and academia, are multi-disciplinary with complexity (Technical, Political, Contractual) and a technical scope of work.
  • You are comfortable in an environment where technology is being built to operate in customer or partner environments, and you are proactive in behaviour to ensure successful project delivery. 
  • Experience of leading effectively through ambiguity and getting the best out of teams operating in a matrix environment.
  • Ability to coordinate, monitor and control individual projects to ensure delivery of objectives.
  • The credibility and experience to engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders
  • Experience of working successfully with a range of partners to deliver.
  • Experience of delivering projects where taking R&D through from TRL 3 to instrument delivered and installed with the customer.
  • A willingness to continually improve.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Engineering / Systems Engineering (or equivalent) degree level qualification
  • Highly proficient in project management techniques and their application, with the ability to prioritise work to meet deadlines for yourself and others
  • Project Management Qualification (APM PPQ, Chartership or equivalent)
  • Strong people management skills to manage cross functional, multi-disciplinary teams and to influence people outside the direct line management chain
  • Line management experience (direct or indirect)
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to present complex information effectively to meet the needs of different audiences
  • Proactive behaviours, with a strong focus on delivering for both customer and NPL.
  • Proficiency in all aspects of Microsoft OfficeTM, including MS Project
