About the Role

Put simply, we set the standards by which everything is measured. In doing so, the National Physical Laboratory is helping to combat issues on a global scale such as climate change, curing diseases and the development of cutting-edge communications technology. As a Project Manager you’ll take a leading role in delivering a range of projects and contracts that have the potential to make a huge difference to the world we live in. At NPL, we touch ordinary lives in extraordinary ways and you could too.

Our Project Managers get to lead on R&D and commercial projects, across UK government and industry, as well as European and international collaborators. It will come as no surprise, that this is about delivering projects on time, on budget, to the highest standards and within our governance standards.  Yet it’s also about getting to know the teams whose projects you’re managing. Building trust-based relationships, managing risk, seeing that we hit critical milestones and diplomatically following up actions to ensure teams are delivering, are all part of what you’ll be doing. You will also help secure resources for new business bids and tenders, so that we play our role in creating a healthy pipeline.

The successful candidate will provide project leadership and management to ensure successful delivery of a range of projects and contracts, within the NPL project governance framework, and will be expected to work effectively with NPL`s world leading scientists.

About You

Essential experience and abilities

  • Strong track record of successfully leading and managing R&D projects for a number of stakeholders across an organisation.
  • Demonstrable experience of working within a PMO environment.
  • Experience in demonstrating responsibility for the project to both the customer and NPL.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrable experience in developing and applying project management processes and tools, and a willingness to continually improve
  • Ability to travel both outside and within UK

Please note: Applications will be reviewed and interviews will be conducted throughout the duration of this advert therefore we may at any time bring the closing date forward. We will be holding interviews on 21st, 22nd and 29th of August. We encourage all interested applicants to apply as soon as practical.

Multiple positions available however - the nature of our work in some areas means that nationality, residency and security requirements may be more tightly defined than others.
