Assistant Project Manager

At the Environment Agency there’s so much more to our work than building flood risk management schemes or regulating industry. We strive to ensure that everything we do counts towards leaving a legacy to be proud of – for people, communities and the environment – for all of us to enjoy and for future generations.

We’re looking for an Assistant Project Manager, a role which will see you join teams working on vital projects, often focused on our flood risk asset management programme. In practice, you’ll take complete responsibility for some of our smaller projects, and support senior colleagues as you gain experience on our major programmes of work.

Whatever the challenge, you’ll be involved throughout and take on wide-ranging responsibilities: adding value at the initial strategic planning phase all the way into implementation, construction and delivery. This will require demonstration of collaborative working, building positive working relationships, influencing and persuading, report writing, cost monitoring and forecasting, feasibility assessment, outline design, environmental management and construction management.

Naturally, we want you to be the best in your field. So expect training and development that helps you grow professionally. We will also pay your fees for one professional membership.

The team

We are Programme and Contracts Management (PCM), creating a better place through excellence in project and programme management. You will become part of an award-winning team that provides areas, alongside national services and centres, with an effective project and programme management service. Our strong, well-qualified teams manage projects throughout their lifecycle to deliver environmental improvements, adding value and resulting in a greater sense of shared ownership with local communities.

Experience/skills required

Degree level education and a background in contract &/or project management.
Innovative and full of ideas, you’ll be a great communicator and champion of good practice.
1yr project management experience & management qualification such as PRINCE2 or APM would be an advantage. Member of a related professional body preferable, but we can support you towards this. Experience of financial and commercial controls, NEC contract suites, CDM regulations and risk management advantageous.

Contact and additional information

For further information contact Simon Allam on 07769575193 or simon.allam@environment-agency.gov.uk.

Salary £27,572 (potentially more for exceptional candidates, based on skills and experience).

See the candidate pack for more information on benefits offered, including generous pension provision and leave entitlement, flexible working practices, excellent training/learning opportunities.

Driving licence ideally required as some driving may be necessary. Lease car is available where there is a clear business need. Occasional travel (regionally or nationally) and overnight stays required.

Interviews are anticipated to take place w/c 14th October 2019.

When providing evidence for competencies give examples of how you demonstrate these either within the context of this role or as transferable skills. CVs/documents attached to your application will not be assessed for selection.
