Can you successfully lead capital projects?

Brent is a tremendously vibrant London borough where the iconic arch of Wembley Stadium dominates the skyline. Spanning both inner and outer London, it is a borough of huge contrasts in terms of its economic, environmental, ethnic and social make up. Brent’s diversity is evident to all who visit our borough and our long history of ethnic and cultural diversity has created a place that is truly unique and valued by those who live and work here.

Brent Council is pursuing a far-reaching transformation agenda that better meets the needs of our community so it is an exciting time to join us.

The Post

We are keen to recruit a highly motivated individual to take a lead role in the successful delivery of significant elements of the Council’s Capital Portfolio.

The applicant will be required to manage the effective delivery of multiple projects to the required standard, in order to meet critical timescales and completion within approved budgets. The post requires leadership across the Council and beyond as you work with colleagues and partners.  The successful applicant would also manage a range of technical consultants and contractors.

The postholder will be expected to understand the strategic importance of their projects and to work closely with the capital programme lead to support effective working relationships with portfolio holders and key stakeholders.

This post delivers some of the council’s key priorities including housing, schools and regeneration projects.  It is exciting, interesting and challenging. Work with us and make a difference.

The Person

The ideal candidate will be experienced in construction and capital project management.  This should be supported by a relevant professional qualification.

You will bring energy, enthusiasm and the ability to navigate through complex issues to achieve great outcomes for the Council.  You should be a good team player and able to develop and foster excellent relationships with our partners and stakeholders.

Extensive knowledge of construction contracts and project management techniques as well as understanding of commercial sensitivities and financial management are essential.

If you have a strong track record of successfully leading and delivering projects and a passion for achieving great results, then we would love you to hear from you.

The Council operates a Flexible Working Policy.  Applications from those wishing to work part-time or job-share are welcomed.  Please contact cheryl.andani@brent.gov.uk if you would like to discuss.

Closing Date: 6 October 2019 (23:00)
