We are looking for a Health & Safety professional to take on the role of Principal Designer in our growing health and safety team.  This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious person with drive, enthusiasm and a good knowledge of design and construction related activities and designer’s duties to develop the Principal Designer role in BDP.

Initially working as part of the Project Management team in BDP’s London studio, you will provide health and safety support and advice to Architect led multi-disciplinary design teams and Clients during the design and pre-construction stages of a wide range of projects to ensure their compliance with their statutory duties under CDM 2015.

You will collaborate with existing CDM profession representatives to co-ordinate health and safety and CDM knowledge across all professions and develop and deliver training programmes, workshops and CPD events in CDM for internal designers within the London studio and across other BDP UK locations.

About you

You will have a thorough working knowledge and experience of the CDM Regulations and other health & safety and environmental regulations and a good knowledge of design and construction related activities and designers duties gained from broad experience across a range of industry sectors. You will have the experience and expertise to compile and review significant hazard and risk registers, review contractor’s method statements, and Health & Safety plans and able to work effectively with people at all levels and from all backgrounds with good client skills.

You will be able to work concurrently on a portfolio of projects using excellent verbal and written communication skills, and demonstrate a collaborative team-working style and ability to meet tight deadlines. Ideally you will hold a CSCS card and membership of an appropriate health and safety led institution or you will be a registered CDM Co-ordinator with the APS.  Training will however be provided as necessary.

Please note that the successful candidate will be asked to complete a Baseline Personnel Security Standard Pre-Employment check (BPSS) and will be required to undergo various checks including: Identity, Right to Work; 3 years UK Employment/Education History and Criminal Record. If you are unable to meet this and any associated criteria, then your employment may be delayed or rejected.
