Portsmouth is a truly great and vibrant waterfront city and has an excellent reputation for the delivery of major infrastructure schemes. With over 207,000 residents and 8,000 businesses throughout the city, this unitary authority's main goal is to ensure the delivery of a great service for all those who live, work and visit here. From customer service to multi-million pound projects, our residents are at the heart of everything we do.
At Portsmouth City Council we're all about developing our staff, because we want to build a bigger and better city but we need the best employees to do so.
Your New Role
The City has plans for increasing growth and regeneration and the Infrastructure team is looking to employ capable, enthusiastic and ambitious senior project managers to help deliver these aspirations.
You will be working with infrastructure project managers to manage and successfully deliver complex major civil engineering schemes from inception to physical completion. This will include working with an array of multi-skilled people and in partnership with other stakeholders to provide the capacity to ensure delivery. You will work closely with officers, contractors and elected council members to ensure that the highest standards are achieved within the constraints of time and budget.
You may be a project manager with considerable experience or you may be looking to progress your career. In Infrastructure within the regeneration directorate we recognise experience and enable progression; a successful senior project manager can achieve a salary of up to £47,000 p.a.
What you'll need to succeed
- Be educated to HND or degree standard in a relevant subject
- Have an appropriate professional project management qualification (e.g. Prince 2 practitioner level) or membership of an appropriate professional body (e.g. APM)
- Have at least seven years post graduate experience, developing your career with some excellent experience in the industry.
What you'll get in return
As well as highly competitive pay you'll receive all the benefits of working within a local authority organisation, including flexible working hours and a fantastic pension which allows you the opportunity to pay in more for that greater return. Annual leave starts at 26 days, increasing to 30 days after 5 years, and staff discounts for travel and local shops. We support our staff's development throughout; if that’s progression planning or involvement within the on the job apprenticeship scheme - we will work together to drive your career.
